A fun, albeit, muggy weekend here in Chicago. And now it’s back to the daily grind and what better record to get you through the week than the new Cut Chemist album, The Audience’s Listening? I picked this up last week and so far it’s been one big WOW!I really had no idea what to expect with this record. I had assumed that it would be a standard, present day rap album that would act as a vehicle for “booty-shaking” videos and singles but reviews were leading me to believe otherwise and to give it a shot. Am I glad that I did.
The wide-arrayed sounds present on this album fortifies that Cut Chemist was looking to make an “album-length” statement with The Audience’s Listening in that records are made to take the listener on an adventure. A lot of cutting and scratching going on throughout the entire album. It’s wonderful.
"The Garden" just gets to me with its Middle Eastern-vibe. There’s something particularly beautiful about this track and its synth-washers. "Storm," the bread and butter of the record, does what the title suggests. It’s pretty much a general rap song with its wide variety of beats but it’s a rocker nonetheless.
