No, not those Libertines. These Libertines were more concerned with crafting quality hooks and melodies rather than having whatever current debacle they were involved in highlighted in all the local newspapers. These Libertines formed in Cincinnati, Ohio in the early 80s and scored a minor, college radio hit with their debut single, "Everyone Wants To Be My Sister."Subsequent single and compiliation appearances along with a cassette-only release followed, but these Libertines didn’t see a somewhat proper release until 1988, when Tilt-A-Whirl was released, but only in Europe. Hearing the death knell toll in the early 90s, these Libertines called it quits until reforming for some gigs in 2005 which resulted in the Libertines US Reunion EP, a culmination of old and new material, released just this past year and can be picked up here.
Definitely more in-tune with many other “east of the Mississippi” area groups who adopted a Velvets/Byrds-inspired jangle feel to their music. If you’re thinking R.E.M., Let’s Active or perhaps Dreams So Real, then you’re almost there but I can also hear a little bit of the Feelies and Del Fuegos as well. You know, stardard Ditching Boy fare. Word has it that an anthology of the band’s material will be released sometime in ’07.

These Libertines are great! Now in addition to the Reunion EP, you can get a "greatest hits" with 20 or so tracks. Incredible songwriting. A real discovery.
