Bluebells "Sisters"

Although first heard of sometime in 1993 in the wake of “Young At Heart” appearing on what I believe was a Volkswagon commercial and its subsequent re-release, I never actually got around to picking up a copy of the Bluebells’ debut album, Sisters, until a couple of years ago although I have had a “much-needed-to-be-replaced” copy of the Singles Collection since ’94 which I picked up over in London when I was visiting at the time.

Released in 1984, this debut album is a big favorite (I know I say that all the time but it's really true this time) in our household as its’ impeccably romantic, jangle guitar-pop are traits that both Ms. DB and I can agree on. I suppose the Bluebells were a new wave act who weren’t really new wave in the same way that Aztec Camera and the Go-Betweens weren’t really new wave. The group did receive a fair amount of radio-play recognition in their heyday but I bet the Bluebells actually would’ve faired a lot better during the mid-90s brit-pop scene had they continued making music in the wake of “Young At Heart”’s commercial success. "Cath" seems like a song that would’ve been tailor-made for that scene.

In any event, I know the group did release a second album, the aptly titled Second, but I’m a little unclear of what the circumstances surrounding its release were. Anyone care to enlighten me and whether or not it’s worth hearing?

The Bluebells "second" album was a bunch of demo's for the second album which was released a few years after the demise of the band on the Vynil Japan label . There are a couple of top tracks on it.
